Scientist
Scentists perform laboratory testing. They are often called on to interpret test results, and manage quality control programs. They need a broad knowledge of their specialty.
Qualifications Required: Scientists have a bachelor degrees in science, often with post graduate qualifications.
Laboratory Assistant
They prepare specimens for analysis and set up tests which scientists and technicians review and interpret. Because today's laboratories are highly computerised, the laboratory assistant must be a troubleshooter who knows how the equipment works. They need an up-to-date knowledge of a wide range of tests.
Qualifications Required: Certificate of Laboratory Techniques, or equivalent level fo experience.
Laboratory Technician
These are professionals who work at "the bench" doing the technical work. They need to be natural enquirers and have a passion for science. Monitoring quality control programs in the laboratory is an important part of the job.
Qualifications Required:Laboratory technicians have tertiary qualifications, usually with an associate diploma.
Collectors
These professionals are the public face of Clinipath Pathology. They are based in the suburban and hospital-based collection centres. A collector has to be technically competent, reliable, compassionate, and able to put patients at ease. Their job is to draw patient blood, and process samples ready for courier pick up.
Qualifications Required: A Certificate III in Pathology Collection, or significant prior experience is a pre-requisite. In addition, new employees complete a Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques. Clinipath Pathology provide this training in-house.
Courier
Clinipath Pathology runs a fleet of courier cars servicing doctors rooms, hospitals and collection centres. They pick up specimens and deliver reports and supplies.
Qualifications Required: A current, "C" class drivers license. A current police clearance.
Medical Typist
This role includes the transcription of Histopathology, Cytology, non-Gynaecological and Bone Marrow Reports as well as typing Pathologist letters and transcription of specialist letters.
Qualifications Required: Previous experience in pathology or medical typing, and familiarity with medical terminology. Computer literacy and a minimum typing speed of 60 WPM as well as attention to detail, accuracy and ability to work as part of a team are also requirements.
Results & Enquiries
Results and enquiries answer calls by phone from customers about patient results and convey these to our clients. There is a strong focus on customer service and accuracy in this role.
Qualifications Required: Minimum requirements are previous customer service experience, a professional and friendly telephone manner and strong written and verbal English skills. A demonstrated typing proficiency with a minimum speed of 50 words per minute is required. Familiarity with medical terminology is well regarded.
