Dr Ben Ryan
Anatomical Pathology, Dermatopathology
Ben graduated in Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2001.
He undertook specialist training in anatomical pathology in Perth, where he trained at several hospitals including Sir Charles Gairdner, King Edward Memorial, St John of God, and the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.
Dr Ryan was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2010 and joined Sonic Healthcare’s Sullivan Nicolaides Laboratory as dermatopathologist, working with Professor David Weedon.
In 2013, he spent time at the Ackerman Academy, New York, which was helpful in providing him a broader perspective into different approaches to skin investigation and diagnosis.
Dr Ryan takes an active role in training and mentoring registrars and junior pathologists and in particular, is involved in internal research projects with registrars. He also enjoys running microscopy sessions for general practitioners with an interest in dermatopathology.
He has memberships of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society and the International Academy of Pathology (Australasian Division). Ben enjoys the problem-solving nature of pathology and dermatopathology in particular, because of the great variety within the one speciality.
